This formula is used for wind damp with coldness bi pain [bi is the Traditional Chinese Medicine term used for painful obstruction syndrome]. Wind cold bi can present with neck, shoulder or upper back stiffness, pain in the joints that may worsen with damp weather, physical inactivity, pain that improves with heat and movement, intermittent muscle and joint pain, heaviness in the limbs, numbness and difficulty walking.
If you get worse with the cold and damp weather or work in a damp and cold environment and have joint or muscle pain this formula would be appropriate. If heat and movement or massage-type invigoration assists in relieving your pain this is an appropriate formula. This formula is drying and should be used with caution. Constitutional formulas such as Gui Pi Wan, Six Flavor Teapills, Great Pulse Teapills and Vine Essence Teapills or Great Mender Teapills may be useful to assist with this pattern.
